The essentials of storytelling

This knowledge is not something that can be put into words like other
sciences; but after long companionship with it, as between teacher and
pupil in joint pursuit of the subject, suddenly, like light flashing forth when
a fire is kindled, it is born in the soul and straightway nourishes itself.

                                                                      –Plato, Seventh Letter, § 341

Synopsis:

Do you think you have the potential to be a fiction writer, but are unsure how to get your ideas on paper? If so, this is for you. It is a practical, hands-on approach for those wanting to learn how to get their stories told. You will learn manuscript mechanics, essential grammar and word usage, story flow, the building blocks of story telling (theme, setting, characterization, point of view), plot development, using effective imagery, and steps to becoming an effective writer (developing good habits, breaking into print, legal and ethical issues). In the process, you will learn how to review the writing of others, which will enable you to edit your own writing with a more critical eye. This class is for the beginner searching for the proper tools, or the experienced writer looking for a refresher course.
