Charlie experiences the first kill.
Charlie paced back and forth. He couldn’t imagine how he could possibly get away with this. Murder was not something he ever wanted to do. It just wasn’t right, but he had to do it to survive. He concluded that the best thing to do was go for someone old. They didn’t have much life left in them after all. If he picked someone who didn’t have any family, nobody would ever know. He had to wait until after dark, that way he wouldn’t get caught. As the sun began to set, Charlie got nervous. He wondered how he could go through with it. Finally, it came time. Eight o’clock at night and everything was ready. As he walked into the crisp November air, he began to feel sick. Thinking about ending someone’s life was going to be difficult. Abruptly, the old lady across the street walked out carrying a large white bag. All right, he thought, this has to be my moment; now is the time to get this over with. Slowly, he walked over to her. He politely helped her to the end of the road. He started to talk to her, but decided it would make this even harder. As she turned to walk back, he watched her creeping along. She would make the perfect target. He followed very slowly, quietly, so she wouldn’t notice. Right as her shaky hand reached for the rusted handle, he grabbed her. She let out a small squeak. Charlie knew a woman of her age couldn’t scream loudly. He threw her over his shoulder and carried her to the shed just a few feet from his house. No one would hear anything here. As he threw her to the floor, she stared at him with eyes the color of the forest. He crouched over her and drew a deep breath. Sluggishly, he moved to her throat. As his lips touched her, he could feel her pulse pounding with nervousness. When he bit, he realized just how satisfying blood was. He drained her lifeless body until nothing was left. He then dragged her limp body to the river several yards away and watched it being washed down the muddy curves. Hoping he could get away with his first kill, he walked home with a content smile on his face.
