Chapter Two
Chapter 2

Lunch Time

I turn off my MP3 player and gather my things together.

"Leaving?" Heinrich turns to me with a look of amusement on his face. What's so funny this time?

"I have Lunch now," I mutter without looking back to him, "I'll see you in a bit."

"Actually, I have lunch too. Where do you normally sit?"

Wow, lot's of convenient things happening today, or is it just me? Well, whatever.

"Far back table, so people won't bother me while I'm trying to eat." I turn and look at him as I reply.

Wonder why he wanted to know where I sit.

"I see, I was wondering if you minded if a friend of mine and I might join you?" I raise my eyebrow at his inquiry.

Why does he want to join me? And who is this 'friend' of his?

"Sure, I guess, as long as this 'friend' of yours isn't like the rest of the students who enjoy tormenting me." I shrug and turn around to head to the lunch room.

"I can guarantee you he isn't. Let's go."

"Whatever." I keep walking with him trailing closely behind.

We go back into the school and head down the hall towards the lunch room. As we reach the entryway Heinrich stops and turns around.

"Go on inside," He looks over for a moment, "I'll be in soon, just going to wait on my friend."

"Yeah, ok."

I continue on inside and set my stuff down before heading over to my favorite food shack, The Garden. Nobody else really buys their food during my lunch period so there's never a line and they serve really healthy foods like salads and fruit plates. They also serve noodles, but I only buy those every now and then, 'cause they're really expensive. I place my order and begin waiting them to finish filling it. I lean over the counter as I wait with my head in my hand.

"Are you sure you should be sticking your rear out like that? It makes you look pretty vulnerable you know."

I jump at the sound of the voice and quickly turn around. Who the heck is that? Looking up I get a closer look at the speaker's face and see a pretty girl with a golden blonde hair and slightly icy-blue eyes. What? I can say she's pretty. I don't have to like girls to be able to tell whether or not one looks good.

"So...are you Nexus?"

Wait, how does she know my name?

"Isn't it rude to ask for another's identity without first presenting your own?" What? I like to use manners...when it's to my advantage, that is.

"Oh, yes, my bad. My name is Lyndon. Lyndon Plageas. I'm Heinrich's older brother." The girl smiles and bows forward slightly while introducing herself.

Heinrich's...older...brother? WHAT.

"Did you say...brother?"

"Yes. Is something wrong with that?" She...he? raises his....her? eyebrow.

"No...It's just...I could've sworn you were...a girl"

"Oh. OH! Oh, I am SO sorry. I should've clarified that from the start. Please forgive me."

"It's not a big deal...just shocking." I mean, he looks exactly like a girl. EXACTLY. IT'S WORSE THAN ME AND THAT'S SAYING SOMETHING!

"Yeah, well Heinrich went to grab something from the pizza shack and I was gonna join him, but then I noticed you looking so...cute and decided to come over here. Besides I always wanted to try the food here, now is a good chance don't you think?"

"Uh, yeah...and uh...thanks for the heads up about the...rear thing..." This is really awkward...I still can't believe he's not a girl...

"Oh it's no problem at all! I mean I'm sure a lot of people would've done the same thing. Besides I actually thought you looked kinda cute like that so it feels kinda wrong knowing I ruined it, but I did snap a few pictures first so it's ok!"

"YOU WHAT!?" I can't help my outburst, I really don't like it when people take pictures of me with me knowing, especially embarrassing ones like that. He looks shocked at first but quickly recovers  and frantically waves his hands in front of himself in a defensive manner.

"Woah, woah, woah, calm down. I was just kidding, trying to see if you were still listening or not."

"Don't do that to me, I HATE when people joke around like that. It's almost as bad as the jerks who are always mocking me." I fold my arms across my chest and look away from the girly blonde in front of me, pouting.

"Sorry, I really didn't mean to offend you or anything. I'll be more careful as to what I say from now on." He smiled and turned to order food from the little hut. "Hey, what did you get Nexus?"

"Oh, I just ordered the Tyrant Salad. Why?"

"Tyrant Salad? What's in it?"

"Well obviously lettuce, which is dipped in pineapple juice, then it has some tomatoes, cheddar cheese, carrot thins, cucumber slices, Italian dressing, cooked pieces of garlic chicken, and it's served with a side of baked potato soup and some cherry limeade for a drink. You can also pay an extra dollar to add a garlic breadstick or more chicken. Or 2 dollars for both."

"Wow. That sounds really good." He turns to the lady at the counter again, "I'll have that please, with the additions." He hands her his money and looks back to me. "So what class do you have after this one?"

"Ah, well, I have my Photo class." I smile when I think of my favorite class.

"Photo, huh? Damn, I just KNEW I should have taken that class." He pouts to himself before sighing in exasperation.

"Why?" I cock my head to the side in confusion. I mean he doesn't seem like the type to take pictures, he seems more like he'd be in them.

"Because then I could've talked to you even more, cutie."

Did he just call me 'cutie'?

"What was that?" I look at him quizzically as I wait for his response. After all, It's not every day a girly blonde boy calls you 'cutie' without batting an eye. And it's also not every day that said blonde happens to be the elder brother of a person who had just recently wanted to invite a 'friend' to eat with you and him.

"Nothing, Nexus, nothing." He smiles at me and I just give him a half-annoyed, half-confused glare before turning away in a huff. "Hey, your food is ready." I look over to see my order sitting on the counter and smile.

"Oh, yay!" I grab my food and turn to head to my table, but stop short when I remember that Lyndon was there too.

"Something wrong?" He looks at me with an amused smirk and a raised eyebrow.

"No, just waiting on you."

"Oh? And why is that?"

"Because, I like talking to you. Is that a problem? Am I not supposed to like your company?" I frown and put my hand on my hip in mock annoyance.

"No no. That's not it at all. Actually, I'm quite pleased with that. As soon as my food is ready, let's go sit down together, ok?" He smiles at me, then looks over his shoulder to see if his food is done.

"Yeah!" I smile to myself. I made a new friend! Tentatively, I look up at Lyndon when he's not paying attention and blush slightly. And he's not bad on the eyes either.

Lyndon gets his food and walks up to me. I smile to him and turn to walk to my table, but he stops me by grabbing my hand. Without a word he smirks in my face, then bows slightly and, to my embarrassment, leads me to the table much like a price would a princess. We sit down side by side at the table where he finally lets go of my hand, which feels very warm. I find myself staring in shock at him as he opens his box and begins eating. He's eating it so gracefully, not a single movement is tactless. It's almost like he's actually royalty. I've never seen someone with such proper etiquette. It's...rather charming actually. After another minute or so of this, he looked over at me and smirked again.

"Is something the matter, Nexus?"

"Huh?"

"I asked if something was the matter. You were staring at me, is something on my face...or do you have other reasons for your blatant interest?" His eyes took on a playful glint as my face turned bright red.

"I...was just...surprised by how eloquently you were eating..."

"Oh? Do you like men with manners?"

"I guess you could say that." I turn away, finding it hard to look at him any longer.

"Oh, then I will do my best to be the perfect gentlemen, just for you."

Oh. My. God. Did he just say that? Is he...hitting on me?!

"I-I-I, I d-don, I don't..."

"Oh my, I'm very sorry, I didn't mean to embarrass you. Please do forgive me."

My face burns three shades brighter than before, if that's even possible. I can't handle much more of this...I feel like I'm gonna cry if it gets any more intense. Suddenly Lyndon looks up and smiles before standing and waving someone over. It only takes me a moment to realize exactly who he's waving to.

"When you said far back table, you meant FAR back table. I didn't even know this was HERE." Heinrich sits down next to his brother and frowns slightly, which seems to be his standard expression.

"Yeah, this table is pretty secluded, but I like it. I think it's nice and quiet here." Lyndon smiles at his brother who raises his eyebrow in response. "Whatever you say bro," Heinrich leans back against the railing with one arm hanging over, "but I guess it's better than hearing 'The Boring Tales of the Lunchroom Whales' or whatever." Despite all my efforts I can't help but giggle at Heinrich's opinions on the other kid's conversations. I mean, it WAS pretty funny. Lyndon laughed too and soon Heinrich joined in with his own calm chuckle. He seems to be more at ease around his brother, much easier to talk to without pissing your pants. Not that I do that. No way. I am FULLY potty-trained thankie-very-muchie! Now then, onto my Bloody Salad. I MUST DIVIDE AND CONQUR!
