Twelve Sonnets to Ponder... The Perfect Sonnet Contest
The Defeated...

The Eulogy of life grows ever black;
A telegram, now laden with blue tears.
My boy’s been killed! – He’s never coming back -
His older ‘self’ deprived of earthly years.
The brightest days of youth – so far away,
The building blocks of life so strong and clear.
In fledgling times – so happy and so gay!
Memorials, so oft’ times disappear...
Make haste dark night, encompassing my soul -
My God on High!  How do I carry on?
How gloomy and how bleak is this black hole -
Relentless are the memories - foregone…

Oh Holy Ghost - Thy darkness beckons me...
I beg ye hold my hand - that I might see.
