A letter to Me.
Dear Me,

So, it’s 2014. I know 2013 was a hard year for you — for us — but I promise you, this year will be different. I have so much hope for you this year. I can feel a change in the air, and it’s time to jump. You’ve always played it safe, but now you have to act before you can stop yourself. Last year you started a story — you haven’t called it a book yet for fear it never would be thanks to the so-called “Curse”. I know no one in your family has ever been able to finish writing a story, let alone a book; but that all changes this year. This story is different from anything you have ever written; the slums of your city send shadows and decay though the pages of a notebook. The tinge of magic shivers through the ink. The characters are as real as your friends and family, and they want their stories told. So this year, my dear Me, you are going to finish their story.

And so I leave my last bit of wisdom with you. Over the next year, people will tell you to write for this reason, or for that reason. But don’t listen to them. When you write, do it for you. It sounds a little self-centered, I know; but as soon as you stop writing because you love it and start doing it for any other reason, you have stopped being a writer and become something altogether different.

This year will be hard, in the real world and in your own; you will have ups and downs, victories and failures. But there is something I want you to do: I want you to write or read something every day this year. Never again will there be a dry-spell of creativity inside of you, my dear Me. This is your year.

Love, Me

P.S. Make me proud!
