Starting today.
I came across a writing prompt
upon a writing site.
I figured I would try my hand
as writing is delight.

I feel the words inside of me
(now humbly I say).
And it surprises me all right
since I was born today.

I see the term of yesterday,
I hear it on the news.
Yet I don’t understand the term--
I’m spellbound in my shoes.

I see that it refers to time,
a time that went before.
But since today is my first day,
I have no past rapport.

And I’m amazed at what I know,
how all this came to be.
The knowledge of the written word,
the charm of poetry.

I know nothing of yesterday,
yet still I feel the drive.
And so I’ll enter my first prompt
on my first day alive.
