The eternal prey
Heart aches, ego and soul bruised.
Trust broken, fragile twisted strands drift downwards, spiraling.
Painful memories linger, festering
Blotchy wounds ooze filthy deceit.
Once beautiful, her love a gossamer thread glistens like a beacon.
Yearning, seeking one worthy of unfiltered emotion.
The tiny flame of love curls beneath a cloud of despair.
Reaching tentatively towards distant horizons.

Purple mist beckons.
"Come closer" he whispers in her hair.
"Let me soothe your fractured heart".
Turning, twisting against his heart, she flees.
Pursued, she slips from one nightmare to another.
Every step moving further from jagged pain.
Relentless he follows, whispered promises healing, mending tortured gashes.
Sweet promises she's heard before, each time daring to dream that this will last.
Weary, her eyes land on his face.
Breathless, gasping her doe's face upturned.
Steady,smooth the bear's eyes overflow.
Struggling, then still, resigned to doom, the doe awaits the killing blow.
Growling thunder booms from his throat, startling both.
Eyes fly, drinking in raw emotion etched on faces.
Doe and bear, predator and prey, eternally separated.

Orange clouds drift, purple mists flash, truth splinters.
Bear form fades to reveal torn and ragged pain, decades times two snatched away.
Doe eyes reveal loneliness of time, past littered with promises unkept.
Form fades to reveal man and woman, stripped naked and bare of pretense.
Breathless healing soothing sounds erupt from throats bruised by former loves.
Circling, a cautious fearful dance begins.
Pursuer and pursued rest in a valley anew, hidden from view.
Delicious, greedy time reveals a journey's path.
