A Good Day

A Good Day

Today was a good day for a change.
I managed to get things done.
Went for an early morning walk
And had lunch with a friend. That was fun.

No crying breakdowns stopped me.
Had only a brief outburst
When I found a penny on the street
And put it in my purse.

I remember how you used to stoop
Down and pick up old, dirty coins.
You'd examine the dates and conditions
To see how badly they were worn.

"These will be valuable some day"
You'd say, and I would smirk at that.
" Sure they will" I'd reply,
And laugh behind your back.

Finding that dirty penny
Really made my day.
It made me happy and also sad,
Like pennies from heaven they say.

I felt a glow of warmth inside
As if you were watching me.
It was a simple message
That brought you back to me...if only for a moment.
