A poem about an action figure trapped in his case.
Action Figure

I have been stuck in here since the day I was made
I have never seen the world outside of my case
I have never been played with by a boy or a girl
I have never seen the world

Every day I hope, one of the people I see
Will release me from the wires binding me
I want to be opened. I want to have fun
I would love to see the sun

I see a man walking around the shop
He’s looking around when suddenly he stops
He reaches up and takes me off the wall
Of the shop I live in at the mall

I’m carried to the back of the shop
Up to the counter and placed on top
I hear the bell on the cash register ring
I’m so happy I could sing

I’m put in a bag and carried across the floor
Through the shop and out the front door
He walks up to and enters an old stone house
He leaves the bag on a couch

I’m taken out of the bag and carried away
I’m hoping that this is my opening day
I’m brought to a room and left on a shelf
Above me are others like myself

I’m put on a hook stuck in the wall
Just like the one I was on back at the mall
He sits on his bed and looks up at his collection of figures
Some small and some bigger

He stands up and walks away from the bed
“Open me, open me” I’m screaming in my head
He leaves the room and walks away
This is where I’ll forever stay

I have been trapped in here since the day I was made
I will never see the world outside of my case
I will never be played with by a boy or a girl
I will never see the world
