A poem I wrote when I found my birth mother after I'd been adopted

My Adoption Legacy

I will always feel so much more blessed than you others

For you see, the fact is, I have two mothers.

The first of the two lovingly brought me into this world to stay

Then in love, she knew her only son could have a better way

She yearned to be near but it was only in thought

While to the second, this tiny baby was brought

She nurtured, and groomed me for a life that would be great

She loved me and taught me and led me to a path that was straight

God has taken her home, never again will I face

The love and the warmth of her sweet embrace

While I am still and always will be her only son

The God of second chances have given me one

Another mother I have, she is the one who brought me here

Now through God's grace, I can finally hold her dear

As I learn of her family and the care, they have wrought

I feel it is the other that will now be here in thought

I know in my heart that the person I am now, is the best of each

So to them both, I owe a debt that I could never reach

I will use all the love the second taught me to have for another

To show the first, the love of a son for a mother

Although I don't understand God's ways, and God's reasons

The color of the sky or the change of the seasons

I do understand a mother's love overflows every device

And when my life is over, I will have experienced it twice
