fantasy, action adventure, ya

Although the room was barely lit, Elly's body relaxed a bit. For on the end of a cot sat her sister and a friend. They were tired and pale but otherwise unhurt.

Two sets of eyes looked back at her, momentarily shocked. As they embraced her sister whispered, “I knew you would come.”

Elly waved her hand for silence.

Once she insured no one was about she motioned them forward.

“Stop!” Elly shuddered as she heard a voice command. They were only halfway across the courtyard. She knew there was no way they all would make it.

Her sister let out a quiet whimper and paused in her escape. With her attention on the enemy Elly almost bowled her sister over.

"Move!" Elly urged them on. "I'll keep him busy. Go through the corridor and turn left. There will be a person there to help you to safety.”

Her sister paused again,"What about you?"

"Don't worry, I'll catch up," Elly assured them, flashing a smile.

Rain splattered her face. Feet smacked the cobblestone as she rushed the solider. Already her footing became slippery.

With a swoop of her sword, she knocked the man's feet out from under him.

Knee on his chest and a sword at his throat she covered his mouth, "Not a word, and you'll go unharmed."

A quick gesture from her enemy found Elly flipping over his head.

He moved swifter and more experienced than anyone she'd encountered.

Surprised to find the table turned so quickly, Elly watched in despair and disgust as her sword went flying through the air. With a clank, it landed just out of her reach.

“Are you an idiot?” her capture questioned. “Attacking the prince is punishable by death.”

A surprised look flashed across her face.

"You have no idea of who I am. Did you? I'm not sure if I should be offended."

For a moment she hesitated; at a closer look she realized he was not much older than her.

His blond curly hair rested neatly on his shoulders, the eyes intently looking at her were an unmistakable shade of green. She came to the realization that he was the royal Prince, although at the moment he was not dressed like one. He wore a faded and tattered tunic soldier's uniform.

'There's a twist in my plans,' commented sarcastically to herself.

"It doesn't matter to me who you are. I have done what I needed to do. That's all I care about." Elly replied, eyes blazing in defiance.

"You were willing to give your life to steal away my Prime Ministers fiancée’ and her handmaiden?" he asked a bit confused about the situation he know found himself in. All he wanted was a night of freedom.

"No, I came to rescue my sister and my friend," she spat back. "They were kidnapped away from their homes and their children. Then your cowardly Prime Minister threatened that if she tried to escape her family would be killed. You can't get your hands on them though,” she concluded, "they are safe.”

Sensing his further confusion, Elly baited him. “Oh, but I see the Prime Minister doesn't tell you everything. Guess I was right when I told others that you are just a boy pretending to be a Prince. Do you even know or care what has happened to your kingdom?”

Pulling Elly to her feet, he looked her in the eyes and growled, "You know nothing about me."
