A breif poem of change I wrote at the library.
Little girl, only two
Scuffing up one little shoe.
Fine hair, neatly curled,
Not a care in her world.

Little boy, just turned six,
Plays outside with rocks and sticks.
Quickly making friends at school,
Where no one worries if they’re “cool”.

Petite girl, ten years old,
Always doing what she’s told.
Careful of the things she’ll say,
And of strangers that pass her way.

Young boy, almost a teen,
The awkward stage of “in between”.
Not knowing where he should fit in,
Or why and when changes begin.

Teenage girl, just turned fifteen,
At the top of her social scene.
Never seen without her friends,
Always following the latest trends.

Young man of the age of twenty,
Insecurities? He has plenty.
Never free from worry or doubt,
Learning what the world’s about.

Woman freshly twenty five,
Finally starting to feel alive.
Coming in to her own skin,
Eagerly waiting for her world to begin.

Thirties, forties, fifties, more,
Life always has so much in store.
We go through changes all the same,
Not all that different from name to name.
