It tells how you can never escape your past because it will always come back to haunt you.
I take the chance to look back
All I see is nothing but black

All the pictures are faded and worn
Sometimes I wish I was never born

Your love was all I seemed to need
I only wish I could have been freed

Running from these tough situations
Always being shrouded by life’s frustrations

I decided to forgive and forget
But I ended up breaking out in a cold sweat

I tried to be an optimist
but you changed me to a pessimist

Vividly dreaming of your sweet voice
It had never been my choice

Swimming within my pool of thoughts
All you ever did was take shots

Falling in your entrancing stare
All I thought was that you were my answered prayer

You said your love is what you sent
Then you said it was not what you meant

My love and myself is all that you got
You told me my efforts were all for naught

Blinded by my past
your presence was all that I asked

The person that used to inhabit this soulless form
Was there in the calm right before the storm

And in my passing into my new life
I want to learn to forget about my strife

And year after year
watch all the fear disappear

So at the end of the day while I look at a picture of me
I can reflect and remember of how I used to be
