About depression and what it makes you believe.
I am naught but a shadow

A shimmering piece of ash

I have been nothing for years

As I was nothing in the past

A shame plus two built into a soul

A life that was unwanted, incomplete not whole

I am naught but a shadow

'Tis all I'll ever be

I am naught but an old song

Words and rhymes forgotten

I was long ago known - not well

Now the memory - if any held - has gone rotten

The things of my past, they hold me still

To this world, cold, never to heal

So I am naught but an old song

'Tis all I'll ever be

I am naught but a spirit

Condemned to this world of earth

Never had anything - life or death

Could have gone worse

Haunting the people who couldn't have cared

Whether I'd lingered in person, or my spirit be there

So I am naught but a spirit

'Tis all I'll ever be

I am naught but the dust

Beneath a person's tread

I float up and go,

Just to end up in places of dread

I cannot be ever truly set free

None can hear, so none help me

And I am naught but the dust

'Tis all I'll ever be

I am naught but a shadow

'Tis all I'll ever be

Naught but an old song

Forgotten, never free

Naught but a spirit,

Dead but somehow alive

Naught but the dust

Which forever never survives
