Chapter Zero of my first Book
My life has been peaceful up until this point. No war, no death, not even a hint of action. But that has all changed recently. In fact, the rapid change of things has been almost completely overwhelming. For years I have been the leader of an organization called “Ambrose.” I started the group nearly 4 years ago and it has grown at an incredible rate.

Ambrose is the only thing that stands in the way the Aliens. What would they do if they got past us? Destroy, thats the only thing they know how to do. We all believed that we existed alone in the universe but we were obviously wrong.

Recently, many different beings have come to threaten us. The Aliens, life devouring monsters, and even Demons. We have come across a few angels, but we try to avoid them at all costs. You see, every time we have a run-in with one, bad things happen to us.

When I founded Ambrose, I took it upon myself to create the ultimate star-ship. Over 40 billion tons of strong metals. Perhaps the strongest metals to ever exist. Once construction on the ship was completed I had to hire a crew. I had heard rumors of a planet that was attacked by the aliens. A planet, where everyone would train on a daily basis to try and become stronger than the Aliens, but they underestimated their power. So, I traveled to the planet and I gathered everyone I could find and I promised them revenge. They gladly took my offer and they are now loyal to me.

I am laying in bed inside my room aboard the ship, when all of the sudden the sirens go off. I jump out of bed and get dressed quickly and not a moment too soon. Alexi, my second in command, comes rushing into the room.

“Sir, radar has picked up an unknown ship on scanners.” She says worriedly.

“Calm down Alexi, get on the bridge and begin charging the main cannon.” I say in a calm voice. She runs out of the room and the heavy doors close behind her. I walk out of the room and onto the bridge. I look around and I see everyone panicking. “Calm down everyone, we don’t need to panic until we know what is coming our way.” I say.

“Its the Aliens, I just know it is.” Says Bill, the tracker.

“Oh come on Bill, you are so paranoid.” Ray says. At that remark Bill and Ray begin arguing and it starts to give me a headache.

“Shut it you two.” Alexi says. They look at her like she is crazy and they begin to yell at her together. Alexi moves her head in my direction and both Bill and Ray look at me. I close my eyes and I begin to shake my head. At once they both say sorry and they go back to work.

“What is the status of the cannon Alexi?” I ask after a few minutes of waiting.

“70% sir.” She says.

“Good, Ray. Open up com’s. Whoever it is, they may have something to say.” I say. He looks at me and gives a nod and opens up com’s. After about 3 more minutes an Alien appears on the screen.

“We will destroy you pathetic humans.” It says.

“You may try, but in the end, it shall be you that falls.” I tell the creature.

“You have quite a bit of courage, I will give you that, the creature says and then the screen goes black.

“Where’s my paranoia now Ray?” Bill asks. I look over at Ray and he is just staring at the screen in front of him pressing random buttons. As the cannon continues to charge tension runs high. Everyone here has a look of fear on their faces and I don’t blame them. In truth, I am scared as well.

“Sir! They will jump out any minute!” Alexi yells.

“Will the cannon be charged by the time they get here?” I ask.

“Probably not, no.”

“Then be sure to take aim with all of the smaller cannons. Maybe, it will be just enough to hold them back.”

I look around the room and I begin to wonder if we stand a chance. The Aliens destroyed these peoples planet, so they know just how much power they have. I, on the other hand, have never seen them before. I don’t know what their firepower is. I don’t even know what their bloody ship looks like. Alexi looks over at me and I gesture for her to come to me.

“Sir?” She asks.

“When they attacked your planet, what kind of weapon did they use?”

“We think it is like the beam that we are charging now. But thiers may be stronger.”

“If theirs is stronger, what would you advise we do?”

“Jump somewhere a few thousand miles from Earth?”

“Set coordinates for that area just in case. If all else fails then we will jump.” I say. She nods and walks over to the navigational charts. I look back in front of our ship, and I take a look at the beautiful stars, as it could be the last time I ever get the chance to enjoy such beauty.

“Sir! They are here!” Ray yells. All of the sudden a large ship appears on screen, completely covered in a red cloak. The red begins to disappear slowly, starting from the front and working its way to the back. Once the red is gone, I see just how large the ship is, easily three times the size of mine.

“Take aim for their weapons and fire! Fire every bloody weapon we have!” I yell. Everyone nods and begins pressing every button on their consoles. Small red beams begin to head from our ship, thousands of them. After a few seconds all of the beams strike, and their ship is engulfed in flames.

“They have taken minimal damage Sir!” Someone off to my right yells.

“Sir! They are charging their beam!” Alexi yells from the left.

“Then fire ours before they do!” I yell back. I begin to hope that our beam will be enough to kill them but based on how ineffective the smaller ones were, I doubt it will do any good. Perhaps, they are more powerful than we realized, or they have a shield over their hull. Maybe we even destroyed the shield.

“Cannon fully charged!” Bill yells.

“Fire!” I yell.

All of the sudden the ship gives a violent shake, much like an earthquake. I look out the window and I see just how spectacular our beam really is. The center of the beam is red with green and blue lines rotating around the center.

“Beautiful” I mutter. The beam gets closer and closer and then there is a violent explosion. The beam collided with their ship head on. Cheers fill the room and scanners show that they are gone. A large sense of relief comes over me and Alexi walks over to me and gives me a nod.

“Its finally done.” I say.

“Thank you.” She says.

“Wait a minute, we may not be out of the woods yet.” Ray says.

“Ray, when was the last time you saw the woods in space?” Bill asks.

“Bill, can it already.” I say. Bill looks at me and he rolls his eyes.

“Remind me to get rid of him later.” I whisper to Alexi. She nods to me in agreement. I walk over to the scanner and it shows that a large item is in front of us. I put the scanner into a deep, thorough scan of what is in front of us.

“Scan shows that we didn’t kill them. We hardly damaged them! Alexi! Jump to earth immediately!” I yell. She runs over the the navigation systems and starts to turn the ship around. The ships alert systems begin to go off like crazy which lets us know that the enemy has launched an attack.

“They just fired their beams!” Ray yells.

“Commence jump! Now!” I yell. A portal appears in front of us and just as we jump, the beam hits us, and that means only one thing.

That we are all dead.
