Christmas Poem
The Saving

A child laid swaddled safe and warm
A manger held his bed
The parents little knew that soon
A sword might take his head

The Magi came to see this babe
They were to bring word nigh
To Herod of the child's birthplace
Through Herod would he die

Warned in dream the Magi were
That Herod's heart was cold
When they left for their home land
Herod was not told

Herod learned of the Magi trick
Then his anger grew
"I'll kill every baby boy
Younger than age two"

"Joseph, Mary" said God's angel
"Danger you now know
Herod's men will kill the infant
Flee to Egypt.  Go!"

Mary's family hid in Egypt
When the slaughter came
So her baby lived to grow up
Jesus was his name

Many infants died to save Him
Infant most divine
So one single glorious babe
Could grow to save mankind
