A Christmas miracle.

On a planet called Earth ‘round a typical star,
there arrived aliens visiting from afar.
In the sky stayed the Meek-Keepers, all full of love;
just so happens ‘twas my town they hovered above.

Those old Meek-Keepers knew of that gravity force
and were able to tap it for power, of course.
And it seems they picked planet Earth because of late
they detected increasing emotions of hate.

  (Of course, nothing so special ‘bout my town for this;
    anywhere they would go they could find a clenched fist.
    Yet they had to pick somewhere at which they would halt,
    ‘cause when you roll the die you obtain a result.)

Now it happened to be that in my clan, to wit,
was a person who held hate and was proud of it.
On the one hand she’d thump out that Jesus is Lord;
on the other she’s slice love with bigoted sword.

Oh, the racist remarks and the hatred of Gays;
(seems so funny these are Fundamentalist ways.)
But when she touted murder as virtue, all right,
he who pens this signed off with a cutting, good night.

  (It was quite a bit sharper with colorful tone,
    but to spare you red face I shall leave that alone.
    Anyway, after years with the wall of ignore,
    I proceeded to try and open a slammed door.)

There was smug still abundant in righteous regale;
(oft the face of belief ups the nose without fail.)
Once again I tried reason to illume her head,
but closed minds shun the light and love ebon instead.

Meanwhile, Meek-Keepers high above tending their ship
had their cloaking device on but they let it slip.
Then as I walked with her in the park at a pace,
in the sky shown the ship of that alien race.

At the sight all a quiver she cowered and prayed;
I took hold of her arm and said, “Don’t be afraid.”
“Even though some occurrences seem to be odd,
  it does not necessarily mean it is God.”

So discussion continued of Isis and things,
of the worldwide unrest--of insidious stings.
And the miracle of one so hateful in kind
was the fact that she started to open her mind.
