Three Minute Read
Banana Bread

“Ya got something!” said Carl.

Jim looked at the two guards grinning at his cell door.

“Yer wife just brought it, Banana Bread!”

If Lisa baked, two things were certain, there was an ulterior motive, and it wasn’t very good. Lisa was a terrible cook, and never happy. Lisa wanted to be rich, refused to work, but spent all her time thinking up schemes to get money, things he had to do, and wasn’t very good at. He’d spent a lot of time in this jail. Glancing out the window, he could see her car out back. Humm…

Lisa wanted to move somewhere where people didn’t know them, start over. But it would take all the money they had to set up in a new town, and he'd have to find a new job. He’d actually been hoping for a few months of vacation, in jail… Why was Lisa still parked out there…?

The guards were looking at him expectantly hoping he’d invite them to share. They were great guys, he’d gotten to know them well over the years. He might as well share, they could find out for themselves Lisa couldn’t cook, and have a good laugh over it.

“Come on in!”

Carl cut big chunks for each, and they sat down to chat. As Jim held his up, he noticed a shiny spot at one edge. Poking it, he realized it was Lisa’s small pearl handled pistol, baked into the bread. She was expecting him to escape! His future flashed before his eyes.

Picking the hunk up in both hands, he took a giant bite, chomping down on the gun and actually breaking a tooth. Blood gushed everywhere. Eventually they hauled him down to the medic. As they passed the window, he noticed police surrounding Lisa’s car.

Vacation!
