My entry in the "Dear Me" contest: my goals for 2017
Dear Me,

Initially I decided my resolution was to make no resolutions, that way I would have guaranteed success! However, after some thought, I decided that was the cowards way out.
Last year, I chose the word “plan” as my word for the year…plan better, plan more, be proactive by planning as much as possible. That was an abysmal failure! Within the space of nine months, my mother, my father and then my baby brother all died. My father and brother within 2 weeks of each other. Planning and any plans already made went up in smoke quickly.
This year…surely…things will be calmer. I think my word will be “flexibility”. Planning is good and even necessary for a whole host of things but, flexibility is always needed. There will always be the unknown, unexpected, and/or unplanned that will crop up with little or no notice and being flexible will allow me to keep on keeping on!
As for specific goals, I have started creating some workbooks for jewelry designers and I want to get those completed and on the market. The first one is almost ready, it just needs some final touches and I need to determine how/where it will be published. The good thing is that the other two to three I want to fill out the series should be rather easy to complete since I will have the template from the first one.
The other major goal is to get my house under control. An outsider would assume that my spouse and I are hoarders…the truth is much more simple…neither of us is home for any extended time which makes it difficult, if not impossible, to do any deep cleaning. We both tend to be very dedicated to our employers and are very good at procrastination! So…getting the house in good shape will allow us to entertain our children, grandchildren and friends for a cookout when the weather improves. Fun food and family…can’t be beat!
These are both pretty involved, large goals and I think they will be plenty to accomplish this year.
While not particularly creative, I do believe these are believable and feasible goals. Accomplishing these goals that will make my life and Jim’s better in both the short and the long term.

Sincerely,
Me
