Walls can keep you locked in as much as they keep others locked out
Barricades

Barricades and roadblocks
Bridges never crossed
Self imposed, the land locks
To rivers we are lost
Afraid to cross the waters
Our hearts cease at the banks
Drawn to unasked quarters
Withdrawals from the ranks
From numbers where we're tested
From the numbers we believed
No quarter was requested
No quarter was received
and so it plays remotely
I watch as rivers run
On rapids white she wrote me
The battle's lost and won
With no more than a whimper
The flame, it peters out
Time frames deemed much simpler
Before the bangs of doubt
My heart beats cross the river
Where brain just will not go
A soul so cold it shivers
With a spirit drowned below
Locked behind the barricades
The roadblocks that we choose
In solitude, such hope it fades,
By pulling back... we lose
