Passing the Test

It wasn’t exactly cheating. I didn’t have the answers in my pocket or written up my arm or anything. I read once that somebody had made a fake label for their water bottle, he didn’t get caught, but that way too much work.

I had to pass this test! It wasn’t just my grade either. My father promised that if I passed this test he’d help me find a car. My own car! It would mean freedom. I could go anywhere without discussing it with them ahead of time. Where are you going? Who with? How long will you be out? I couldn’t even go around the corner now without an inquisition.

I just wanted some privacy. I wanted to go someplace or do something without it becoming the top news story at our dinner table. Being an only child is a great burden sometimes. Sure, you get all the attention, but then you get ALL the attention, if you know what I mean.

Math has always been difficult for me. Once we got to equations and calculus it was impossible. But my own car! I had to find a way to pass that test. At first I thought of clues. They wouldn’t exactly be answers, so it wouldn’t exactly be cheating, right? I’d have to think of clues that would help me remember, but then where to put them? The teacher wouldn’t tolerate anything written, and I couldn’t think of any kinds of pictures that would work.

Finally, I got an idea, and I did pass the test! We’re going car shopping this afternoon! It was so easy I couldn’t believe it! I got all my clues, and hid them where the teacher would never be able to see them.

I hid them in my brain!
