A piece written from my own experience
With Spite I received a message,
A simple hello
A mutual friend.

I soon learned he wasn’t mutual anymore,
No connection between him and me
Anymore,
With Spite wrapped around his shoulders he messaged me more.

Telling stories I wasn’t sure were true,
But believed anyways,
Maybe they are,
Or maybe Spite made them up

That ugly monster that I couldn’t see
Spite,
Creeping closer into my smiles
Making them grow bigger.

Spite making him
Let me think he liked me
Spite letting him hold me

Morning after,
Waking all alone,
A message from the mutual friend
Laced with hate

The boy, long gone
Along with his spite,
Leaving me cold in the morning,
With a tattered reputation

I see the world different now,
More wary,
More careful,
Infected with that little monster

Spite.
