Autumn has arrived. (Form: Free Verse) A Shadows and Light Poetry Entry
Kaleidoscope

The warm breath of morning
thaws the stillness of night,
melting it into a torrent
of feathered sounds.

I watch in wonder
as gossamer threads of light
are brightly woven together
illuminating the elms,
the oaks, and the sycamores.

The scurrying sounds of
a morning breeze
begins to animate the trees.
It’s then I notice …

Once green-hued leaves
are cloaked
in summer remnants –
reds and pinks, golds and yellows,
rusts and browns.

These now fragile adornments
dance in the wind,
their movements random
and kaleidoscopic.

With music, with dance, with color
Autumn has arrived.
