What are the Odds ?

The cat was sitting on the back porch looking at the yard when the dog came out.

“What ya looking at?” the dog asked.

“Tree.”

“Why?”

“Something’s up there.”

“Leaves? Branches? Squirrels? Anything in particular?”

“A bird.”

The dog looked up in the tree, “There’s always birds in the trees.”

“Different bird.”

“Don’t all birds kind of look alike?”

“I know this bird.”

“Come on! I know you’re pretty smart but, even you can’t tell one bird from another bird.”

“Really? Tell you what, I’ll bet you supper that I know that bird. Matter of fact I’ll bet that even you know that bird! Bet?”

“Are you kidding? I get your supper, and mine, if I win?”

“Yes.”

“Deal!” said the dog, excited, “I was just thinking about supper too! Now I get two suppers!”

Suddenly there was a commotion inside the house.

“Mom!” they heard, “the cat knocked over the birdcage again and I can’t find the bird, I think he might have gotten out the window!”

“I’m coming!” Mom called.

The dog turned to the cat. “I don’t suppose you’ll be getting any supper tonight, will you...”

“Probably not, except for yours...”
