Can this young Elemental learn to control her powers? With the odds stacked against her?
My first day of classes was less than glorious. Being the only female fire born in the school got me a lot of weird looks and even more questions. I hated the attention, but I was used to it. I was the only fire born girl at my old school also, but only the new kids and under-classmen questioned me there. This time it was a whole school, including teachers. By the time lunch came around, I was ready for bed. Blaze and Ace didn’t leave my side all morning; trying to intercept anyone with questions or comments.

On the plus side, Elemental History had become my favorite class. Professor Lamoine spent the entire class trying to find a question I didn’t know the answer to. My father drilled as much history as he could my whole life. She was dumbfounded. I even seemed to impress Ace.

“Well Miss Write, I really don’t see any reason for you to be in my class if you already know it all.” She sighed sitting down behind her desk and rubbed her temples.

“I could be of vital use to the other students.” I leaned back in my chair. I knew my father would love to hear about her when I got out of class. The bell rang and we all packed our bags.

“Nadia, that was brilliant!” Blaze exclaimed as we walked into the hall. “I have never seen a teacher so frustrated with someone for being smart!"

“I call dibs as your partner for the rest of the year.” Ace put his arm around my shoulders, and for the first, time being touched didn’t bother me. It actually made my heart beat a little faster. I really enjoyed his touch. We laughed all the way out to the court yard and headed toward our power classrooms. Ace didn’t remove his arm until we heard someone chuckle behind us.

“So, the new little fire freak has a boy toy already.” A voice called out. I had a sinking feeling it was the storm born, Staci, that Sam had warned me about. I whipped around my blood was instantly boiling.

“If you have something to say, come say it to my face.” I could feel my skin start to prickle. I knew I had an anger problem. It came with being fire born.

“Awe, did I make you mad?” She said in a sarcastic tone as she walked forward getting close enough for me to hit her. Her long black hair was tied up in a ponytail with a dark purple bow. Skin tanned to perfection, no doubt from using her daddy’s credit card to go on expensive vacations.

“Nope, I would just rather you say shit to my face and not my back like a coward."

“Why don’t you go back to your little one room trailer on the other side of the tracks and bang your brother or something.” She had just poked the bear in the wrong spot. Flamed flicked up my arms and legs. My burgundy hair glowed bright red. I didn’t have the streaks in my hair like most elementals did. My hair was just a pretty burgundy, unless I was mad. I could see the grass at my feet begin to fry. I could feel the heat pushing through my body. I could feel myself loosing control.

Then, everything went black.
