a short poem about growing up

Learn to Fly

You’ve got to learn how to fly.
You reach like everybody else.
You can’t learn all on your own.
And you cannot teach yourself.

You take the good with the bad.
You take the poor with the rich.
You collect all your pennies.
Make sure to scratch your own itch.

Flying is unforgiving.
Learn all the tricks of the trade.
Keep your wings in perfect shape.
And hold on tightly to faith.

Many are cutting your wings.
Trying to keep you down here.
We don’t have good intentions.
Oh, we never made that clear.
