He had a problem.
The world engulfed him.
He was surrounded by activity.
He was immersed in sounds..
Yet, he played the role of quiet observer.
His life was void of caring or observing
Lacking in direction or goals.
It was a collection of moments.
Containing memories but no promises.
He noted the marks left by others.
But left none of his own.
He was alone, and
He wanted nothing more.

The world could not allow such luxury.
It flung a barrage of temptations and barbs.
It sought to draw him in.
He resisted valiantly,
But the world wouldn’t be denied.
It intensified its pressure.
Retreat was impossible.
Finally he relented,
Playing the role of a participant.
He sought to deflect the assault.
The world wasn’t satisfied.
His ruse was discovered.
In the end he was forced to surrender himself.
He entered the ranks of involvement.
The world was victorious once again.

As nature abhors a vacuum.
So the world abhors aloneness.
