A poem written on my birthday during this strange time
Lockdown

We face an unseen enemy,
It’s victims spread far and wide.
The world now seen through pains of glass,
For some to reach the outside.

Now to find ourselves
In new worlds of our own.
Covered by three simple rules
To emerge safe, not alone.

This is no game, one can’t reset,
The rules are very clear.
Wash your hands, isolate as you can,
Stay safe inside.

For many exercise is needed,
Both physically and mentally.
The body does not understand
Confinements of this disease.

Family and friends now appear,
Through portals of new found glass.
Separated and together,
Unable to feel the needed touch.

Heroes fall, Heroes stand,
Their courage and heart displayed.
For without such sacrifice
We all would be lost.

This will be a moment for history,
Unlike many others its past.
Sadness, loss and pain.
Mixed with relief, joy and remembrance.

Life will change, some for the better,
Some will never be the same.
Everyone drawn together in this moment,
Lockdown to save the day.

When all is done and past is past,
Take a moment to honour those lost.
Remember them, as one once said,
Our future is built on what they left.
