Memories that still hurt a child
"Momma, why are you leaving?"

Prostitution and dope led her away from her children
I guess she didn't want them to see the lies of life she was living

She left all 5 of them in an abandoned building
The smallest one, crying for her, the love he was needing

Only 2 but a lot of questions in his mind were growing
Her looks fading away and a smile no longer showing

Scabs on her arms and one of her eyes was swollen
"Mommy is that an ouch" he asked sobbing and choking

She only looked back in his eyes and said "be good"
Words that at that age were not understood

Carried and passed off to a sister from the womb
Not suspecting of the oncoming doom

To this day he asks why did she go
In nightmares and dreams he can see her face glow

A lot of lies were left for him to believe in
Because he couldn't have asked that day " Momma, why are you leaving?"
