The creator of this Interactive Story provides this information and guidance:
There you were creeping in the back yard hiding out in the bushes, luckily you saw no movement from the front of the house knowing then the two officers parked in the unmarked police car out front hadn't notice you. One can imagine such a tedious job that one has been doing for so many years that even on this night, Halloween night, a night when the police had to be extra vigilant at the house the causes so much fanfare for the small town you lived in, that one couldn't catch everything that went on.

You took a deep breath trying to calm your nerves noticing the night sky looking so perfect with the stars shinning bright, the half moon helping to illuminate the darkness in the cool crisp fall air could these have been the same conditions on that night all those years ago. You took another deep breath trying to work up the courage at what you were finally going to do, knowing the broken basement window was only a few feet away, you were about to do what you pictured yourself doing so many times walking past the house on your way home, to finally enter the house of death.

You've listened to the other kids telling their stories of being in the house of death now you were going to find out whether they were telling the truth, or whether their stories were just as you thought, lies. If they were true however, you would now have a story of your own to match, but even better being that it was Halloween night, his night. You've heard the tales over the years, how one day he will return on his night and seek vengeance on the town but by now he would be a shell of himself, an old man even, not believing that any person or thing as some like to say he was could have that much evil and power to stay hidden for so long until one night and cause that much devastation. If the tale of him and the house of death was even true, all the adults in town would never utter a word about what happened all those years ago, it was just old man McGee that wouldn't let it die.

You took one more deep breath, lying on your stomach you started to slowly army crawl out of the bushes across the grass hidden in the darkness of the night camouflaged by your black clothing you reached the basement window reaching in and attempting to unlock the latch without cutting your arm. You realized how useless it was just like the other kids described the window would pop right up, the latch has long been rotted off. Now all you had to do was turn around and lower yourself down through the window which had just enough room for you late teenage body. They just never described the fall as you realized your feet had no hope of touching the floor of the basement or the crate that they mentioned would be there all you could do was hope for the best as you let go.

Your feet found dirt and then your knees as you fell to the ground losing your balance in the darkness, only it was what your hands grabbed a hold of to catch your balance that made you worried, landing in something soft, something furry. You quickly put your hand in your jean pocket finding the lighter you stole from your mom's purse knowing the little bit of light it would provide wouldn't give you away to the police parked outside. You tried it once, twice, and a third time you gasped as it lit up the basement for a brief second before thankfully the darkness returned as you quickly pulled your hands away and got to your feet trying to erase from your mind what you just saw instead trying to focus on what exactly you were going to do next. However the image couldn't be erased, the grotesque scene you just saw for that brief second. It was a dog, a dead dog actually, the front half in your left hand the back half in your right and the middle well that was missing, the middle flesh of the dog just ripped right out and nowhere to be found. It had to be a joke, probably kids at least that is what you told yourself in the darkness in the house of death. However you couldn't help but wonder could it really be him, could he really have returned. No chance, no way you told yourself, it had to be kids, or maybe even an animal, you found a way in why couldn't an animal. Still it might be better if the cops take a look you looked back to the window where you entered, you'd just have to find a way to get back out. Otherwise in the brief second of light besides the dog you saw the steps out of the corner of your eye, steps leading out of the basement. If you had to go up the steps to get out, the dog was all ready dead why not just finish searching the house like you intended.
