“Look!” Sandy said, excitedly.

“At what?” her brother Tim said, not excitedly.

“A four leaf clover.!”

“Whoopie.”

“Do you know what this means? Lots of wishes and they’ll come true!”

“How?”

“Four leaf clovers are magic!”

“Magic huh. Like that magician did at Harold’s party with the hat? I saw him hide the candy! Or Easter baskets that magically appear on Easter morning, that Mom buys all the candy for? Or magic like…”

“It’s real magic. Make some wishes, you’ll see.”

“Fine! I wish I had a boat. And, I was taller. I wish I had chocolate cake for lunch!”

“You’re being silly. I wish I had a new friend. I’ve been so lonely since Judy moved away.”

“I’m sorry Sandy, I wish I was a better friend.”

“Don’t worry, I know it’s not easy for a rotten big brother to suddenly be a best friend!” Sandy laughed and ran.

Feeling like a jerk, he ran after her. Suddenly he saw her fall. She quickly slid over an embankment and into some water. Sandy couldn’t swim!

Tim ran like the wind, jumping in quickly and grabbing his struggling sister, pulling her to the edge, hurting his leg somehow. A passerby stopped and helped them out, Tim’s leg was broken, he had to go for a cast.

When they finally got home, Mom was so relieved she gave them each a huge slice of chocolate cake.

“Your wishes came true!” Sandy said, “ You were a boat that rescued me, you’re taller, in your cast, and you’re having chocolate cake for lunch.”

Tim grinned, “And I think your wish is coming true too.”

Out the front window a moving truck was pulling up next door, and a family was waiting there with a girl who looked just Sandy’s age.
