Philhaz will soon change the fate of the world as Two warrior races will fall

Prologue

This story is set a few billion years into the future with earth as we know it, wiped out by the sun expanding. Then as our sun begins to die, becoming just a small dwarf star, A small planet, much smaller than what we have now, holds the remains of humanity. It is a strange an unique planet. This planet doesn’t rotate at all, with one side constantly facing the white sun, and the other side permanently in darkness.
The survivors of humanity had crash landed on both sides and because of the atmospheric differences to space, technology failed, which resulted in a basic stone age existence. After one hundred thousand years all of the old ways are well and truly forgotten.
Now the people have adapted to the lands they live in, with the ones in the whiteness of the sun becoming a ghostly pale white like their sun, and the ones surviving in the mountains and forests of the darkness, becoming like night.
Neither knew of the others existence and believed they were not able to survive for long in the bright light or the cold darkness. In the White lands they fought their own people until their resources began to run out and with their numbers too great, they turned their sights to the darkness, where they soon discovered they could survive over there for a short period. They used clothes at first to keep the freezing icy air out of their lungs and then created masks to help breathe and see.
With trade becoming the way for this people, this worked for many years and they formed four strong realms. There was a small amount of peace for sometime, until the most deadliest enemies found them in the dark lands.
They called them the Dark Ones. They were the other survivors of mankind, only raised in vicious forests with creatures from the worst of nightmares.
All out war broke out between the two, but with the Dark Ones incredible speed and strength, they forced their weaker enemies out. However, because they were unable to at first handle the brightness of the white lands or the hot oxygen, their enemies thought they were safe and did not expect an attack.
So, with their defences down, the dark ones discovered the eclipse and they were caught them completely unprepared when they sent thousands of warriors on the attack and into their lands.
The Dark Ones were free to finally attack, they stormed all four realms, wiping out thousands and thousands, completely annihilating one whole realm and leaving a wreck of a city.
When the sun came back up, they quickly retreated. They had taken decent losses but were proud of their almost complete conquest of their enemies. The White Ones were left to rebuilt, working together to strengthen their people. Walls were built, armour and weapons were once again their life. Children were taken from mother’s to train for battle and even sold to the training academies for wealth.
No one knew when the next eclipse would happen and it soon did, but this time they were prepared, and fought them off or hid in shelters.
Battles raged on both sides with neither side giving up and this continued for hundreds of years, with neither side able to dominate or wipe out the other, until now....

Chapter One

The academy of the Dark Knights

I was raging inside, I’d made a stupid mistake. Dammit, don't worry about it, keep calm I told myself over and over.
I kept sprinting down the alley way, the huge white walls were like tunnels in this area, and the bright white sun peeling down so close you felt you could throw a stone at it. It was all you could basically see in the horizon, if you lifted your head up.
There were no windows to be seen down this narrow rundown area and that was for the safety of the student warriors, like myself. Anyway, I was late, and late meant pain.
Not far to go now, I kept up the pace. I leaped a small half broken wall, easily clearing it with my powerful fast long legs. Sweat stung my eyes as I pushed myself harder and harder. I hardly puffed as my lungs steadily kept going in and out in perfect easy rhythm, my arms swinging easy at my side to make this pace complete. I could do this forever, I felt.
As I neared the end of the fighters road, I could see a small group of young women looking suspicious and hardly wearing much up ahead. Their legs and waist bare, their white sun blasted cheap material basically see through, it looked as though it could come apart at any second, not that they cared. Their hair was short and a grey white, the most common colour of all our people and just like myself but mine had a little yellow to it. For I was high born and not exposed to outside for most of my life like them. The length of their hair barely making it down their necks. Long hair wasn’t common among the poor, especially those exposed a lot to the burning sun, it was almost like the sun burnt it away. Mine was intentionally cut short, like all up and coming solders.
They hung around our grounds in packs all the time, staring towards the training grounds flirting and with young men . Our age was where they got started, lure us younger ones in with their beautiful smiles and soft touches.
I sprinted closer to them than I had to be and grinned as one got a fright as I jumped down next to her, she didn't react overly much or say anything to me, because it is normal for boy’s, and sometimes the girls, to be running in from this direction and they were lucky not to be escorted away by a trainer or security.
I ran on to the grounds which were basically one arena after another of fighting students. Some fighting more then one at a time, it also had a giant field for extensive hard drill training. The grass, like nearly all other grass in our land, a milky white dead looking thing. I gulped as I saw that the instructor who had it in for me most, was with my team.
I ran over and didn’t knowledge anyone but our instructor of the day. I dropped my head in front of him, which was a sign of respect we were taught to do for them and for our parents or officers when we serve them.
Damn it! I should never be late to this class... Nobody smirked or grinned as I arrived, they just kept training. They knew it wasn't worth the consequences.
"What time do you call this boy!?" Jarmusk, son of Daekkon, bellowed at me. Towering above me, his tight sharp, angular, cheek bones exploded with rage as his thin lips, with a little bit of spit, sprayed over me. You would think I shat in his meal…. He was of the house of Reekus and definitely had it in me.
"Sorry sir it won..." the wind left my lungs painfully and I was down on the ground from a knee under the ribs, and I couldn't breathe for the life of me. Damn it, that hurt. Don’t show it, I told myself. Don't let him see. I slowly moved up to smile arrogantly.
"Won't happen again, sir," I said, as I rose, but he had already walked off.
I watched him walk away in his posh uniform and shiny long blade by his side that looked as though it had never hit a single thing. I had wanted to say I was with my father on the wall but Parent or house status was very rare to save you from failure in any form at the academy of Dark Knights and that instructor, more or less, targeted members that were above his house.
This academy was special, Our squads were taught to infiltrate the dark lands, to kill great beasts for meats and learn locations of enemy-movements, not defend our realms and great wall like the other academy’s.
I went to join in with my junior/senior six man squad as they took turns Sparring a full senior and champion fighter of eighteen years of age. He could destroy all of us, but not at the same time. Only One year more of training does that, and I couldn’t wait to be the next level. Makes you damn near indestructible. We probably won't all be champions, but we would be close.
I paused as two strong fighters faced off against the champion, my two closest friends, Vedin and Clare. The rest of our team Ian, Hamkirk and Gust, looked to sit this one out having not entered the arena, but I waved Ian in. He was slim and didn’t look like much as he had a gentle face and long blond hair which he tied back. He looked very unimpressed with me but I waved harder, grinning at him, and he joined me inside the arena. With Ian standing just to the side of me, I readied myself, watching the champ in the middle.
Vedin and Clare, not giving a toss what Ian and I were planning, ran front on at the champion. Clare leaped off Vedin with a flip and came down with an explosive kick at the champion.
The champion was surprisingly slightly wobbled and rolled away quickly as Vedin moved in too.
I decided to help now and went in from the side. Ian then seeing me circling around, waited but soon moved in looking for an opportunity to strike. The champion attacked back and was too fast, smashing Clare over and flipping Vedin while he attempted a massive punch, only to get slammed down upon Clare's head as she tried to regain her feet. I came at him in this moment, seeing an opening, but he spun round and blocked my kick to the side countering with a giant left hook. I blocked it but the force of it put me way off balance and he moved in for the kill on me. Vedin moves in on him from behind, throwing his arms around his throat pulling him into a choke hold, but he slams his elbow hard into Vedin's ribs over and over. I run in smashing shots into him but he freed himself, aggressively throwing Vedin off him and walking through a hard shot to his throat from me. He then grabs me, slamming me down hard on the the ground, stars exploding everywhere for me. He sees Ian coming and spins with a crazy wild punch at Ian’s head and then slamming a decent shot into his ribs to send Ian down.
The rest of our team laughed, It was over, he took out all four of us like he was out for meal. I lay there catching my breath before I started to rise. Marcus, the champ, grinned at me. Coming over, he helped me up.
“Come on, your blood has more mongrel than that. Wake up!" Grinning and thinking it wasn't an insult, he walked off. He was my house champion, Kafanat’s best bare knuckle fighter, at the moment.
Sheepishly, mainly because I was rocked, I responded with a nod. Always my bloodline gets thrown in my face but, hey, that's my life, when your parents are famous.
I joined the remainder of my squad, where we all laughed it off, and discussed ways we could try take him out and take him down.
But all I could think about was what Marcus had said. Even after years of people seeing I wasn’t anything special, it was still brought up. I had been home schooled and joined the academy later then all the others. It was a big show off that your family are high born. Very few get to do that with their children.
Our instructor Jarmusk walked to the centre, taking a moment to study us, before shouting."Round two. Let's go! Two vs one. Champions, have a break, and the rest of you, work your asses off!"
Me and Ian quickly teamed up, grinning against our captain, and my best friend, Vedin. He stood half a foot above me and was built like a weapon. He was a formidable fighter and stood out unfortunately mostly because of his poverty. Most of his gear was trash and his hair and skin had the poor touches to it but he was still alright looking I thought. He shaved his hair very short and had a friendly yet serious vibe to him as well as a quiet calm to him. For him to be a captain was massive for a scholarship child as their called.
He grinned at me, stretching his legs apart and taking a fighting stance. "What you got Philhaz?" he whispered, taunting me with a gesture of 'bring it on.'
Me and Ian spread out and without a thought I leaped in, throwing a double jab to the head and right to the body. The first two punches didn't land but the body shot landed clean. Vedin took it like a champ however I knew it hurt, no one likes body shots. He quickly responded firing a spin kick at me and then leaping at Ian before he attacked. I ran to Ian's aid, looking to wrap Vedin up and choke him out, but he saw me coming and released Ian to throw him self at me. He threw a shot high and low. I rolled with the shots, slipping under his attacking arms and taking him to the ground. We wrestled a few minutes on the ground before Ian got the perfect opening and choked him out.
We each took turns taking each other on while the champions went around sparring with other teams. At this level, the instructors had very little to do, because we all knew what was expected, and all we did was fight. To sharpen our skills to kill. To be faster and stronger. To be combat smarter. To be ready to try take down a great beast, or, if we ran in to the Dark Ones.
Time flies by and after three hours of training, we headed off on to the pistol training. Here you practice aim and running. It was apparently very difficult to shoot a Dark One, but the best could manage it, or at least slow one down to get them with the short sword.
As we left Instantly, my squad hassled me for being late and making us look bad. We moved together as a small pack through the streets amongst men and women rushing everywhere, some holding baskets of food or small items.
Soldiers were also everywhere, watching and looking for any excuse to attack someone, usually those deemed to be stepping out of line or stealing. They were very serious here and we were watched harshly with the constant threat of being attacked and the expectation to get away if something does go down. We being more punished for getting caught than for an actual crime.
“Where were you, Philhaz?" Clare asked, as we ducked off down a side alley watching for guards. Sometimes they came after you to test you.
"He was probably chatting up some low life breeder!” laughed Gust.
I gave him a shove from behind as we walk but I was laughed at by the other boys.
"I was walking along the wall with my father and if anyone doubts me, I'll challenge and duel them right now!" I said raging a little.
All were quiet for a second for our wall had a lot of respect from us all. The thought of defending it against the armies of the Dark Ones was something we all dreamt of, as the wall around us was our people’s greatest defence out of all of the three realms. They also knew I hardly saw my father.
Hamkirk grabbed my shoulder with excitement. We also weren’t allowed up there, so their reactions weren’t a surprise.
"Did you see anything?" Hamkirk asked.
"Any deaths?" Ian asked over him.
"No. There was nothing, it was creepy, so silent. Father said they know the eclipse is near, so they're holding off," I said quietly, and to their disappointment.
Vedin, always Mr serious, cut in. "Come on guys, we need to focus up, we have obstacle class next and I don't want our squad group being last. It’s all important for the eclipse, if all goes wrong. Better than daydreaming."
“Shut up!”, Hamkirk groaned at him to my entertainment.
I thought back to the wall and what it was like staring out into the darkness beyond. We might not say it, but we all feared the darkness out there, and for the dreaded attack of the eclipse. No one was safe, the Dark Ones pored in stealing, destroying and killing, even sometimes entire families and the screams were always awful…...
"I don't know about you guys but I'm going to stick close to that champion, he's already killed a Dark One," Hamkirk said.
Hamkirk was a full of life amazing person. I mean, he was big as much as he was big out on bullshit. He was a big joker and he had crazy long white hair with a bit of red tang to it. He tied it up most of the time, unless, he said, he was out catching lady’s, as he tells it. His training gear was only the second best to Gust and they both had rich incredible armours, already waiting for them as soon as they graduate. Unlike Vedin, who had no wealth to him what so ever, he would have to earn his with kills.
"In his dreams. He probably tripped on a Dead One and dreamt it while he was Unconscious," Ian said.
"He hasn't even been in a true hunting party yet, hell no," Gust piped in with his stuck up tone.
"He said it was during last years eclipse, his dad and him," I said, though I couldn't believe it. The Dark Ones were crazy fast, they attack all year round, scaling the walls. But they needed their masks and skins, so they were very vulnerable, compared to catching one in their own lands. If their mask was pulled off they would be half blinded and struggle to breathe, which slows them down.
We walked fast down a pathway heading to the weapons training area, and to our discomfort heading towards us was another older squad. They seeing us grew with excitement. There were no rules about fighting outside of class and the odd pathetic group attacked younger ones on sight.
These guys weren’t much taller then us and if it came down to it, we would fight. I felt a nervous rush at the thought of a fight with them. One of them, with curly white grey hair and a face that looked as though it was the wrong way round, pointed at us and said something to his group.
We all stiffened up as the jeering began, one threw a drink and it smacked Hamkirk in the face. He went red faced and looked as though he would attack, and they laughed and laughed, egging him on. Vedin simply grabbed his shoulder and pulled him away, back towards our destination, but they continued following.
“Hey girl! Come have a hoot on this!” One of them said, dropping his pants and waving himself at us.
We ignored them but we were extremely embarrassed, I could see Clare was uncomfortable. We walked on briskly, none of us admitted out loud that we didn’t want to fight them, but all I could think of was how relieved I was that we didn’t have to fight it out here on the street. Not that I’m afraid, it’s just anything can happen in street fights, and there have been deaths. Accidentally, but it’s still a rough way to go.
We arrived at the weapons training grounds. There were heaps of guards around and there was a massive fence around us that was all thick concrete, many places of which had gun shots all over. We had fake bullets you could shoot at each other, but mostly there was target practices, with running and jumping obstacles.
We got stuck in and trained for what felt like forever, but I loved my gun and sword. We were made to sprint along tunnels and shoot targets and jump moving obstacles and defend ourselves with the sword as chosen individuals attacked us in certain areas.
I was pretty good out of those in my squad with a gun and sword, my eye was sharp and combined with a sword, I was lethal. I don’t know why, but moving and shooting felt natural to me, like I didn’t even have to think about what I was doing.
Father once told me my mother was the same with the sword and gun, when I tried to explain how I sucked at certain areas. But this just felt right for me, which was wonderful and sad at the same time.
We finished up, moving off to sword practice, which was a part of the weapons area in a more safer arena, where you couldn’t get shot. With just a sword I was merely above average. I looked over at Vedin warming up, he was lethal with anything, and so he should be, since he was of low birth.
Scholarship fighters were very rare and were treated terribly by other groups. We defended him and sometimes he used to stay with me and father, to have a break from our academy bunk rooms where there was some severe bullying and theft. We were very close and he was now a leader of a squad. He will be a champion one day, if the academy allows it.
I felt a surge of mixed emotions, a bit of jealousy was always there. I tried not to be, he was great, but I just struggle a little because people expect so much from me. Behind our backs they all say he's my father's true son and I'm the bastard and that we were swapped at birth. I try and ignore this, but he is better then me at nearly everything, and it gets into my soul. I desire to be champion. It’s extremely hard though, there are three options to be champion. Either bare knuckles, swords or guns. My best chances were bare knuckles but feel I will probably never get there.
Sword practice started with some gentle sparring and then moved on to squad verses squad. The pressure was on, it was king of the court, with us starting to take a lead and defeated two other teams but we were getting worn down. Once you were stricken, you were out, to watch as your squad defended against full squads. It got nasty sometimes, but instructors stood watching at all times, calling the shots and sending people out. It went forever, and was hard as hell, but the last period always was. Then we would be free to rest and sleep till the next classes start.
I went home by myself, being careful not to bump into anyone alone. I arrived to our modest yet flash house, jumping the massive concrete fence and heading in through the side of the concrete home. I heard someone moving, and guessing it must just be our slave, I walked up and asked him to prepare me a meal and inquired whether father would be home for a meal also. He was shaggy looking but strong; a one armed veteran that father use to fight with. He grinned at me as I approached him.
Slaves were usually badly injured ex-fighters or lame at birth. The x fighters nearly starved to death, before the slave units began. They go around preparing food an cleaning for fighters families and were fed and given rooms for their services.
After a quick meal of roasted vegetables and a massive sleep, I headed back to the academy early, before our first class started. Being careful making my way there.
I walked around watching others train young children, all in lines, being yelled at by an instructor. I walked on, heading through to our main hall. I paused and stared at the great board of our fallen heroes, my mother's name was up there. I could hardly remember her now sadly. She was an amazing fighter, her and my father had become famous when they brought down an incredible giant beast and then had to defend its remains against the Dark Ones. Not just any Dark Ones Either, the feared cannibal tribe. But it was also their affection for each other that stood them apart. Mother saved father once, when he was badly wounded, and something about them being whirlwind of passionate for each other. At least until I was born.
When I was born my house and family were very excited about me. The off spring of these two great warriors. I'd turned out to be a let down to the public and once mother died, my house completely lost interest.
I was seven when my mother was killed. She was taken down by the Dark Ones on the wall against an incredible force. That force carried deep into our lands until the Lord Commander hunted them down, cutting them all down with his elite followers. It was a wake up call for the realms that when the Dark Ones worked together, they were extremely dangerous, even without the eclipse.
Mother’s armour was up on the wall at home, and sometimes I’d catch father just staring at it. Not saying or doing anything at all. He wished he had been at the wall that day and not at home with me, while she lead the defences.
I kept moving through the empty hall and down a corridor. On the white concrete walls hung many beast skulls and claws but the biggest were in the trophy room. I headed towards one of our more chilled instruction classrooms. Sometimes we actually spent time in the class, learning about our history and planet.
I walked in and everyone was sitting down or laying down in groups. There were a few books on a few tables scattered around with a few serious books, which were rarely used, and the class seemed packed. But not all the students in our year were here, which was a bad sign we would all probably have to do something else.
Not many of the other squads made eye contact as I walked towards a friendly face. Only your own house and squad would really talk to each other. It was like this, squad verse squad and no one wanting to finish last, or disappoint their families, there was almost a hate for each other. Especially for our team, as we won most the challenges, and even though I wasn’t the best in our team, or anything. I walked passed them, I made sure they could see my confidence and I ignored the glares, almost smiling a little at them, to stir them up before I joined my only squad mate here already, Clare.
I sat down next to her as she sat crossed legged staring out a window, looking a bit beautiful, she turned to face me at my arrival.
"Good to see your on time," she said with a smile.
"You would think being late from a family emergency would count for something," I said with a cocky grin.
Her smile dropped “How are you feeling anyway? I swear he hates us all."
"I'll be fine, it wasn't too bad! Not the first, or last, hiding I've taken from him," I said, trying to sound completely fine about it.
"But what does your father say when he sees you like this? It's too far," she said with concern.
I thought about it but got distracted looking at her. Her eyes, they were a blueish colour, and her face was soft and with a small sprinkle of freckles. She was still tough looking and kept her hair short. It was white with little touches of brown through it. She was extremely attractive but she did nothing for it, she was hundred percent focused on her fighting.
Looking at her like this, and listening to her, you would forget how fast and ruthless she could be. She once put someone in the infirmary by cutting his arm open to the bone. She was deadly, and good looking too, so two very scary things.
"Would you tell your family and try to get sympathy, or someone to do something?” I fired back at her.
She went quiet but only because our lesson was starting. We stood up as our instructor entered the room. The others weren’t here yet the instructor was quite early, so what was going on?
Mortess, of the house Reekus, walked in. She wasn’t who we were expecting as she was a practical instructor. She only had one foot and walked with a limp and even had deep scars across her head, but she never seemed to be bothered by her appearance, and was actually pretty funny. Supposedly she had been a pretty good fighter but had come off on the losing side with some huge beast.
"Good day class, hope you are well. Instructor Darius is.. unwell. So no classroom lessons, we will head off and break off into your groups and work on a plan to get through obstacles and challenges. It’s your lucky day. We will have access to the jungle dark course!” She said excitedly, Clare rolled her eyes, “we will take turns executing it on the field against the rest of the class. Bearing in mind our ultimate goal, and what is that goal? Boys and girls?"
"Feeding and defending the realm," a couple of students said.
"Right to it then!" she said, turning and leaving the room, and we all filed out after her to the jungle dark room.
Trees and shrubs and an assorts of obstacles are brought back to provide us with a decent arena type thing, but the whiteness is everywhere, so we are made to wear a sort of goggle mask, like the hunters that go out into the darkness. Only instead of making it lighter, the goggles made it darker. It was hard to get use to them but it was a great idea from whoever came up with it.
We had hardly sat down, I was hoping for a history lesson or learning more about the Dark Ones and the creatures in the Dark lands, but as always, training to kill and collect resources is all that matters. It felt like our lives barely mattered. The survival of our race is what matters most, which is the sad truth of us the White Ones.
As we arrived we saw A third of our class were already there. Among them Our team.
“Didn’t you get the message?” Gust sniggered at us. I ignored him and nodded to the others.
We sat round and began as spectators and then joined in with our Batten's. It's rare for the Dark Ones to have guns or crossbows, they seem to prefer aggressive combat, so that's how we work. The teams only have to make it to the supply’s and back.
The first group begins masked up but we all don’t have masks on, so we can see them easily, but not the other way round. We’re not too hard on them and they make it back with no losers.
“Harder than that, you lot!” Mortess yells.
The second group starts and I hide close to the gear they are after and waited. I hear fighting but stay put until they nearly have it. I jump out, taking out two by catching them by surprise, having been hidden in a tree trunk. I am immediately taken out by the others but their force is badly weekend and they do not last much Longer.
Then it was our turn, and we put the masks on and get in formation and begin with speed. Running in our usual formation, two out front, one on each side, one out the back, and one in the middle. Our captain Vedin Controls the group communications. He straight away reminds us to stop talking and use clickers that are found on our battens like our swords.
I grin to myself, he’s way to serious. I'm positioned right flank. Vedin, clicking in Morse code, said, left flank move in and speed up.
An attacker leaps out at me but I slip pass his shot and land a death shot with my batten and he goes down. I click the details in and I move further out, going around trees and through bush. We all have a set pace we have trained and trained to keep. I know exactly where my team is, we are all set in a ten metre radius. If one of us falls, it's up to the captain whether to support them, or leave them for dead. The mission is meant to be first.
Clare is front right, I hear her enter combat, I click in that I'm heading into flank. I strike at the same time as Vedin and we dispatch them easily but Clare is marked, so she is out and our unit must tighten since we are now one down.
We move on. We take her weapon as is required if a comrade falls, so we practice that. She looked so pissed but there’s nothing we can do. We reach the goods and are straight away attacked by a group of three. The combat is fast, we all know the rules, and failure to go down from a shot is harshly punished. I retreat, and I’m clicking away as two of the three guys move in on me. Gust comes in from my behind, leaping in pass my right, taking down one and as the other moves in. I quickly slam into them, knocking them down and finishing them off. Damn Gust is good but I just can’t stand him and laughs.
“Don’t worry Philhaz, I got it”.
Vedin is now holding the goods and says head back through the Morse code. We have to change track since all sorts get a whiff of our trail out there, making it more dangerous to back track.
Listening and moving, we make our way back. Ian knows our exact steps and where our position to head back too is at the end, like a compass in his brain. We make it back with no losses, which is great, but our instructor is drilling Clare.
"Clare you need to be more aware of your surroundings. You had time to move back and move around, creating time for a team mate to take them from the side. You don't have to do it all yourself," said instructor Mortress.
"Won't happen again Miss!" Clare replies.
"Good! Be sure it doesn't, otherwise you may have to be pulled back to door protection, or even worse, if you can't even take people out in training," said Mortress before walking away.
Clare tried not to show it but she was embarrassed. To be told that, by a woman instructor, was a huge slap in the face. We head out for a group meal, Vedin trying to cheer Clare up but only making her angrier. I just backed off. Nothing could be said, she had slipped up, even though she was one of our best. If it had been for real, she would of been gone.
"We have our first Dark lands outing coming up? Anyone going to try for a kill something?" Hamkirk asked with a small smile.
"Holy shit noooo; your an idiot if your thinking of trying!" Ian said.
Defensively Hamkirk said. "We have to be ready. Come on, if something gets through.."
He was slightly right. A part of being in the elite houses and seventeen years of age, you get escorts into the dark places. Not far in, and with a strong force for protection of course. It was hard enough to see each other out there, let alone kill something I thought. At least it would be two more years before we were to venture out on our own. If one of us was too afraid or too unreliable, we could work as inside the wall guards.
"I'm out guys. I'm going to go home, get some rest,” Hamkirk said. "See you guys later."
Ian looked over after he was gone."If he gets a kill before me, I'm out. Life isn't worth living." We all laughed.
Clare, with a defeated look on her face, said. “He'll probably bet me."
Ian spun round to face her. "If he beats you getting a first kill, I'll tell his parents about how it was him who broke there toilet drainage and not that poor slave he blamed. Then his parents will hang him by his feet, till he's dead!"
Gust burst out laughing. “Can’t we tell them anyway?”
