A work in progress
This world is false” came a whispered voice.
I was parking my car when I had heard the words. Instinctively I looked around like a madman searching for the source of the voice, scowling when I realized how it looked.
“David? You, ok?” Jenny, my wife, asked.
“Yeah, must the new job jitters.” I laughed unconvincingly. There, in the back of my mind was…. Jenny and I got out of the car so that she could drive home and run some errands. Just as Jenny sat down the voice came again.
“YOU are false” it spoke louder.
This time I had no need to look for a source because I knew that was losing my mind. My new job was working for one of the biggest advertising agencies in the nation. I bent down and kissed my wife goodbye. I looked at her for a few moments almost like it would be the last time. With her motherly and concerned voice Jenny asked,
“David, seriously, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing love I’m fine; it’ll be a great day.” I smiled and turned to cross the street when it spoke again.
“Now it is Time, Wanderer, for your Return.” It stated
I walked forward into traffic shaking my head unable to quiet the weird tingle in my mind. If only I had looked up in time, I might’ve seen the speeding stolen armored car that ended that life.
