Waking up from a nightmare, only to realize it's your actual life.
It's easy and hard at the same time. The first time it happens you think it's just a random thing. You think they are having a bad day. The second time you think it's just a coincidence, it won't happen again. The third time, you feel you must have done something wrong.
I met him at the age of sixteen. He was a few years older and the attention he showed me was not like anything I had ever experienced before. He was thoughtful, kind, and a great listener.
My mom and step-dad had just split up and my mother had moved in with her younger sister and her family. My uncle tried to take control of me and had pretty much made their home a prison to me. I was only allowed to go to school and back. No hanging out with friends, no special events. I was not even allowed to talk in the phone.
My sister had called to speak with our mom and my uncle got upset because I had given her their number without permission.
My cousin, who was just a few months younger than I, had a lot of freedom. She was able to do a lot of things that were not really proper but got away with it. It was always suspected that her step-dad was molesting her but no actual proof was ever established.
