Writer's Cramp, 10/8/22
It's hunting season again
And I prefer big game
Through the portal I enter the terrain
The arena of my choosing

I don the disguise of the local population
Two legs, two arms, one head
I move among them undetected
Until I strike

Upon my prey creeps the shadow of a cat
In human form
An interdimensional interloper among the unaware
Upon this Earth walks a hunger

It's a cosmic dance that brings us together
A fragile yet eternal balance
Food sustains the source and the source brings forth life
The dark defines the light

The released soul, a bat in the wind returning to its keeper
Flesh, candy wrappers littering the floor
I see beauty behind the ugly task at hand
I see the ruthless efficiency of this energetic, self-sufficient system

The seasons are long and arduous
A certain sadness descends, a nostalgic longing
The membrane vibrates with a familiar song
I shed my human meat suit like a discarded costume
And enter the great Beyond
