Poetry Topic of the Month Contest

Twice Burned, Once Learned.
I turned around, saying to myself, I
must have done somebody wrong, I
discovered, as I was yearning
to belong.

Listening to the sound of the waves,
knowing that the outside temperature
was hot, I soon discovered what I had
forgotten. I forgave them for what they
had done.

When I was being baptized, and immersed
in water, I was delighted and surprised. When
I came out of the water and saw the sunrise,
I was engaged in thought. Much to my
enlightenment I was encaptured by what
was ignited within me.

It wasn't so rough, the poet in me was friendly
enough. To my acknowledgment, I discovered
what I was capable of; sensibility, a peaceful
mind, and a gentle heart.
