the alien next door gardener
Mr. Smith the Alien Gardener

348 words

Sam Adams had just moved back to his childhood home of Berkeley, California, and had moved into his very expensive dream retirement home, near Solano Avenue in the Thousand Oaks neighborhood he grew up in. Ruminating on the insane costs of everything, he went to the garden shop and returned and began working on his garden.

He started chatting with the attractive neighbors, the Smiths, who had just moved in next door. They were strange-looking people, pan-ethnic look, could be anything and spoke with a strange accent.

          Sam asked Mr. Smith,

“So, what brings you to Berkeley? Are you associated with CAL?”

          Mr. Smith smiled and said,

Well, Sam, you see, we are not from here at all. We are part of an advance team of alien scouts checking out your planet for possible inclusion in the Galatic Federation. The Galatic Senate commissioned us to do a survey and to talk to ordinary earth people. But our mission is top secret. We chose to confide in you because you run the local UFO network and a local bar.

We would love to talk to you further, but you have to sign an NDA and not tell anyone until one year from now when the trade and tourism embargo is lifted, and the official delegations arrive for meetings with your government leaders.”

          Sam laughed and said,

“           Sure, why not?”

He found himself on a spaceship filled with strange-looking aliens. Mr. Smith began telling Sam all about the Galactic Federation and its battles with the evil Khan Giant nazi spiders who have designs on taking over the earth. They asked his advice as to how to approach the governments of Earth given his past work in the Agency as a top-notched paranormal researcher.

          Mr. Smith said,

“Well, time to return you to your gardening. And we would like to learn some gardening tips from you as well.”

He found himself back in his garden, and Mr. Smith and his wife helped with the gardening and stayed for dinner with his wife.

          Mr. Smith’s parting lines were.

         “Remember Tell No one.”
