Bus Trip

“Alice! Alice! Hold up!” came a voice from behind. The yelling woman seemed so excited Jane automatically turned to see who was calling.

Running up to her, the woman blurted… “Alice! I haven’t seen you in ages! This is so exciting! I live over on Maple Street now.”

About to say, “I don’t know who you are,” the woman talked over her, “Do you have time? We could stop at the Muffin Shop and have a coffee and catch up, my treat!”

Well… Jane was hungry… and this woman was paying…

Seated in the doughnut shop, they ordered coffee and sweets, and the woman kept talking incessantly. Over the fifteen minutes they sat there, Jane found out she was married, had two kids and ran a sewing shop in town. Her husband traveled for work, too often, but his salary was intense, so she didn’t complain. She just hired a Nanny for the kids after school and weekends. Her shop was a grand success and she was well known in town, and she could certainly get ‘Alice’ into any functions that the town had, just call! (handing her, her card) and it was so incredible that she decided to take a walk just then, usually she walks at two. Kismet, she said!

Jane could hear from her voice that she was winding down, so she looked at her watch and then jumped up, “Oh gosh, I’m going to be late for my appointment! I’ll call you!” and she rushed out.

Ten minutes later she was on the new bus she had been walking to catch. The one she had been on was way too crowded for ‘all the way to New York.’ Jane liked to relax on bus trips, but free coffee and doughnuts… well, that was a lovely perk!
