a short poem about abuse
Saying it louder

Saying it louder doesn’t make it truth.
Nor whisper make it a lie.
I tried to run away again.
Instead, I spent the night.

Called a love tap and still a bruise.
Swollen lip a fuller kiss.
I tried to run away again.
I aim, but then I miss.

They say a broken bone will heal less weak.
Say it loud so who can hear.
I tried to run away again.
Unknown is what I fear.

Repeat ten times and cross my heart to die.
I pray but don’t move my mouth.
I tried to run away again.
Fear never left the couch.

No getting even or besting allowed.
Sheep do not become lions.
Change the rules on how we live.
Rule the way we’re dying.
