Making Him more real to our souls
The Bible was written in Hebrew, ancient Greek, and Arabic. The names will include the original language with a short poem on each. Jesus bought us back out of sin with His precious blood, and we should desire to get to know Him better.

“And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them, in all the
scriptures the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:27 NASV).

"And Moses built an altar and named it The Lord is my banner;" Exodus 17:15 (NASB)

Amalek fighting Moses
the battle is fierce
Joshua is leading the army

when Moses lifted his hand
Joshua prevailed
when Mosed lowered his hand
Amalek prevailed

Aaron and Hur 'stayed'
Moses' hands until sunset
and Joshua won a great victory

so Moses built an altar
and named it Jehovah-Nissi
The Lord Jesus Christ
is our Banner for victory.

" .... thence is the shepherd, the Stone of Israel. ...." Genesis 49:24

Jacob
on his deathbed
thought back to his
flight from wrath
from his twin brother Esau.
He had taken stones from the field
and used them for a pillow
when the sun went down.
He thought of all that God had
done for him since -
a sure foundation
that he built his life on.

"The Stone of Israel"
was first used by Jacob
then over and over again
in the Word of God.
Today it echos in our hearts
who know the Lord Jesus Christ
as a foundation which stands
against the assault of our enemy.

"The scepter shall not depart from Judah until Shiloh comes." Genesis 49:10

How precious is having peace of mind?
But there can be no peace of heart
until the door is opened
to the Peacemaker.
When He enters to dwell within
then we shall know the peace of God
that passes all understanding.
The nations will have no peace
until the Prince of Peace comes.
What a blessing it is.

"And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah - Jireh....." Genesis 22:14

What a test of faith,
and heart-breaking.
Abraham was commanded to offer up his son Isaac.
Abraham, ready to obey God,
selected the place,
built an alter,
bound Isaac
ready for the alter,
when the Angel of Jehovah
spoke to stay his hand.

Abraham saw a ram
caught in a thicket
providing a sacrifice
in place of Isaac.
The Lord provided a lamb Himself
or the Lord provided Himself a Lamb.
Abraham named the place Jehovah - Jireh
(The Lord will provide).
The same spot where Jesus
bore our sins on the tree.

"But the Angel of Jehovah called ....." Genesis 22:10

The name Jehovah is an English translation of the Hebrew name for God - the four letters nin'(YHWH). Ancient Hebrew was written without vowels. The Hebrew word for God’s name in the form of the Tetragrammaton appears some 7,000 times in the Bible. Most translations arbitrarily remove God’s name and replace it with a title such as “Lord.”

If a Bible character's name ends in "ah" it has the word Jehovah in the name.

"The Angel of Jehovah" is the pre-incarnated Christ. It is used many times in the Old Testament.

"And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel." Genesis 3:15 NASB

The woman does not have a "seed."
It was to be imputed by the Holy Spirit.
An age-abiding battle
with an assured victory.

The first promise of a Savior
must have been dark
to our first parents.
They built their hopes upon it
and by that faith, they were saved.

God dressed them
in the righteousness of Christ
with animal skins.
The innocent blood of animals
purged them until Calvary.

The Blood of Christ washed them clean.
The bruised heel came
by Jesus lifting His diaphragm
and pushing up with his heel.
He shall bruise Satan on the head.

Jesus is that Seed of a Woman
and His resurrection is our victory.

“In the beginning God …. “ Genesis 1:1

I will begin here because “God” is used over 2,550 times in the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible).
The Hebrew word for God is Elohim. EL means “supreme one" or “mighty one.” The “im” makes it plural, referring to the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. One God – three Persons. If someone says he can explain the Trinity to you, it's time to put your hat on and go home. We cannot comprehend it but we can believe what God's word says.

“And God said, Let us make man in our image....” Genesis 1:26
“Hear, oh Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord.” Deut. 6:4

Elohim is one of seven names used for YHWH.

Things that are hidden
in the Old Testament
become unhidden
in the New Testament.
