How kids cope with one going off to school for the first time and the other staying home.
Can I go too

Five year old Steven Baker was so happy to finally be heading off to school. He had been looking forward to going for the very first time. Steven was starting kindergarten this year. It was something he had looked forward to for a very long time. The one thing that had him worried was his little sister Sarah. He didn't know what she would do with out him at home. Sarah asked him all the time "can I go too" He wished that he could take his little sister to his school but he knew she wasn't quite old enough to be in school yet.

Steven thought about what he could do. He wanted to make Sarah feel like she was important too. He told her every night she could help him figure out what to wear. He said he couldn't do it without her and she was happy that he cared. Steven said "Now I also need you to help me with my school lunch" and that it would help him out a lot. He told her she knew what he liked and
she'd know just what to do.

Sarah began to feel like she was important. She looked up to Steven and she wanted to do her part. Every day until school started Sarah and Steven would have their talks. She'd tell him what to wear and talk about his lunch. Steven knew he had done a good thing by letting Sarah help him with school.

When the first day of school finally came Steven worried about Sarah. He didn't want her to feel bad that he was going to school and leaving her home alone. That morning when he woke up Sarah was sitting in his room. In her lap she had his clothes and in her hand she had a comb. She said, "hurry up or you might be late"
He smiled and said " You're the best little sister in the world!"

They sat and ate breakfast and Sarah told him all about his lunch. Sarah told Steven that she would miss him a whole bunch. He got up and gave her a hug and told her he couldn't have done it without her. When Steven got on the bus he watched her as she waved goodbye. He put up his hand and waved right back and gave a little sigh.

As he sat there on his bus he thought about Sarah. He knew she would miss him and he would miss her too. Steven and Sarah had never been apart so this was new to both of them.

Steven enjoyed his first day of school . He had a lot of fun with all the girls and boys. When the lunch bell rang they all sat down to eat and when he opened his lunch box he saw something pretty neat. Sarah had taped a picture of herself right on the lunch box lid. So you see little Sarah went to school with Steven after all in his lunch box where she hid.
