They met on a blind date. Would it work out?
They agreed to meet in a little romantic restaurant called Le Bateau in the old part of Montreal down by the pier. They had much to discuss so they decided to meet early, at four o'clock. He got to the empty restaurant first, and followed the maitre d' to the cozy little table he had requested when making the reservations. He ordered a beer. He kept glancing at the door, impatient for her to arrive.

When she finally walked through the door, his stomach tightened. She had long, dark, curly hair put up in a twist, and warm, round, brown eyes. She was even prettier than her picture. He stood to catch her attention. She noticed him immediately and smiled. She has a sensual mouth, he thought.

He couldn't take his eyes off her as she approached him. He liked the way she moved, so graceful like a cat. She wore a black pantsuit, white turtleneck sweater, and looped earrings about the size of a silver dollar.

He kissed her on both cheeks. She liked that, so European she thought. They both sat down, never taking their eyes off each other. She sat against the wall, covered with a huge painting of fishing boats in a harbour. He sat facing her. The waiter stepped to the table. She ordered a margarita, he ordered another beer.

"I'm glad you called Jacques," she said.

"So am I Dawna."

Dawna was happy to be here with Jacques. It felt right immediately. She quickly estimated he stood 5'-10" and weighted about 175 pounds. He didn't have a large frame but his shoulders and arms looked strong. He has the build of a Frenchman, she thought.

He looked young for his forty-five years. She liked his black hair, graying evenly on the sides. His oval-shaped glasses gave him a rather distinguished look, and definitely European. He didn't have matinee-idol looks, but he had a warm smile and a soothing voice. Her female intuition told her that her friend Diane, Jacques' sister, was right. He was a nice guy, and Dawna liked him already.

Jacques and Dawna were comfortable with each other. They smiled, they laughed, they giggled. She stared at his face when he talked. He felt good about that, and she knew it.

Finally, he couldn't stand it any longer. He leaned over the small, square table. She met him halfway. He closed his eyes. His mouth lingered on her soft lips and the scent of her perfume invaded every cell in his head. He knew he wanted to be here more than anywhere else in the universe.
