Oh Love, why have you turned on me?
THE BECKONING OF LOVE
V. D. Hill

Oh Love,
Why have you crept into my empty heart again,
When I have been content with loneliness?
Why have you beckoned me,
Convincing me to taste a sweeter kiss,
And then abandoned me,
Discourteously,
And left me lost like this?

I made my peace with you,
My life was through,
My heart would never mend.
I gave applause to your persistence,
Your unwillingness to bend,
And with humility, then swore
To seek your tenderness no more.

I have been wounded far beyond imagination,
I cannot see beyond the limits of my pain.
My grieving heart cries out incessantly,
Oh Love, what is your gain?
Why have you turned on me,
Deceivingly,
Pretending to give in,
While unremorsefully
Proceeding to destroy me in the end.
