A poem for the "Five Minute Tale" March contest
With Spring on the way
My heart's full of joy.
The farmer brings hay
With help from his boy.

In the fields, I walk
Every night and day.
I'm not part of a flock,
Nor do I bray.

I eat grass so green,
I chew and chew.
I'm not very clean,
Nor do I mew.

I have four legs
With hooves so black.
I can't lay eggs,
Nor do I quack.

I have a long tail.
I like to swat flies.
I don't eat from a pail,
Nor do I like fries.

Do you know who I am?
I have given you clues.
I do not like ham,
Nor do I like stews.

I belong to a herd,
Which is more than two.
I am not a bird,
Nor do I wear shoes.

Have you guessed who I am?
If so, take a bow.
No-- I'm not a lamb,
But a big black cow!
