ALMOST OVER YOU

I’m almost over you.
Except you’re the first thing I think of each morning.
Your face obscures my vision.
Your voice invades my ears.
My empty heart aches.
But I’m almost over you.

I’m almost over you.
Except that every corner turned holds a memory.
The letters I can’t bear to read.
The souvenirs I hide away.
My eyes well with tears.
But I’m almost over you.

I’m almost over you.
Except for the long evenings spent alone now.
Your scent surrounds me.
Your smile still haunting.
Wanting to be in your arms.
But I’m almost over you.

I’m almost over you.
Except I can’t believe you left me.
Not even a goodbye,
Dismissing everything we had,
In one angry moment.
But I’m almost over you.

I’m almost over you.
Except for not understanding why.
What made you leave?
Silently turning your back.
The pain stabs like a knife.
But I’m almost over you.

I’m almost over you.
Except I’m still standing in the meadow,
Where memories bloom.
Waiting for new pastures.
The past clings like a web.
But I’m almost over you.

I’m almost over you.
Except I can’t accept you’ve moved on.
Do you think of me?
Do you feel my pain?
Or just gone with the wind?
But I’m almost over you.

I’m almost over you.
Except I know that as long as I breathe,
Not one day will pass,
That I don’t think of you.
But I’ll keep on telling myself
I’m almost over you.
