A short work on the war in Afghanistan...
Our Love and War

Sherri sits ‘neath window’s pane
Her love’s gone off to war
She saw him only yesterday
And walked him to the door

Her Jimmy’s one of many whom
Serve in search for peace
Yet unafraid, yet unaware
Of all war may release

Granddad leans upon his cane
Reflects on days of yore
The fear, the strife come rushing back
The death, the blood, the gore

The wakened beast afoot again
To rip through those oppressed
Until and if good men arise
To put the beast to rest

A tyrant, cruel, perhaps insane
Awaits with mirthless glee
Our Jimmy fair and all the corps
He waits on you and me

And so we slip into the rain
Is there no other way
Reluctantly and unassured
Our cause is just this day

Another day, another vein
We trace throughout the years
And yes a bit of déjà vu
Companion to our fears
