what made me so special?
I stood calmly
as rocks hurtled
past knocking
down trees
behind me.

Not that I had
time, but I
didn't blink,
taking the time
instead to drink
in the sunset.

In moments
like that,
covered by
dust and my
own mortality,
I was one with
the earth.

What made me
so special that
I could survive
the privilege
of being
alive?
