A poem about love that could never be
Last night I dreamt of the one I loved
Not for Love’s sake but for mine own
For when this Love that I’d ne’er known
Was not but little seed in fields of hope this hand hath sewn
When Love’s gentle touch was not a thing of mine to own
It was shown the fairest realms of Earth o’er which no ill wind had blown
But Oh! No tree hath sprouted ‘neath mine loving sun that shone
For what mine hand hath scattered ‘neath the sun so brightly shone
Was not, in grace, returning what mine Love had yearn`ed so
And though True Love’s true name was clearly never mine to know
To love not once but a thousand times
This Love of mine, this Love of mine
‘Neath the sun that only shines
On not Love’s shadow but on thine
I tried, how I tried! But e’en so
That seed hath chosen not to grow
Into desir`ed mighty tree mine Love implored to know
Last night I dreamt, nay, I pined of thee
And never shall I know
A truer Love that in mine heart
Had ne’er been doomed to grow
