First attempt at Sci-fi, oh my...
PROMPT: Begin your STORY with the following:

The planets are aligned. Some say this foretells the coming of dark times, but . . .

"I just don't believe that the alignement of the planets can have any kind of prediction value on the fate of Earth and all of the life forms that reside there. I am fully aware that the gravatational pull of the moon effects Earth's tides." She often talked to herself when the Captain tasked her with duties that she was not particularly fond of doing, and this time was no different.

It frustrated her to have to do what she considered redundant research. She had been stationed on this ship for the last 6 months and it appeared on the surface that the Captain continued to question her abilities by assigning her mundane research projects. The Captain never came right out and said that he doubted her ability to complete multi-deminional complex chaos studies and provide indepth and explicit projections, but he did keep assigning her topics that have been well researched and documented for the last two decades. Did he really think that she was going to come up with some startling new discoveries.

"Well Captain, I just might this time." she spoke out loud to herself. She had the galaxy du jur displayed in all it's three dimensional holographic glory . The plantary alignment was visibly apparent. It was a truely beautiful thing to behold. The equipment had the capability to do a real time display of a time lasped scenario of these comic events.

The Captain had a well recognized and documented talent for making new discoveries. He had the medals and awards to prove it. His crew was carefully choosen for their talents. Talents that complimented each other that made these new discoveries possible. So maybe this assignment was not just so much busy work. She wished that the Captain would give her some indication of what he was hoping to discover by having her do this research time and time again.
