A longer poem dedicated to someone dear to me.
This is probably one of my personal favorites of all of the poems i've written (and posted) so far. Please, tell me what you think.

Without You

I sit here in the silence
Of a thousand working minds,
A quiz is being taken
The answers we must find.
Yet I have long since finished
As I sit here writing lines,
I sit here in the silence
Of a thousand working minds.

I close my eyes and think of you
And hope you think of me,
You're not that far, just across the range,
It seems like an endless sea.
Three hours alone by car not plane,
I could be there in time for tea,
I close my eyes and think of you
And hope you think of me.

It's much much later now
As I pen this newer phrase,
I see the homework 'round me,
I feel I'm in a maze.
It's only been a few hours,
Yet without you it seems like days,
It's much much later now,
As I pen this newer phrase.

Oh how I yean to see you
To hold you in my embrace,
And see the happy smile,
That always lights your face.
I sit here dreaming dreams
I know I'm a basket case,
Oh how I yean to see you
To hold you in my embrace.

I sit here with my mind a-whirl
My thoughts they rest on you,
I look out and see the stars,
The sky a midnight blue.
I see two stars and make a wish,
I wish on one for you,
I sit here with my mind a-whirl
My thoughts they rest on you.

The baby he starts crying,
And no, he isn't mine,
I walk up there to comfort him,
Yet he's asleep by that time.
Are you as well so fast asleep?
In my dreams I dream I'm thine,
The baby he starts crying,
And no, he isn't mine.

The silence closes 'round me
The clock ticks on the wall,
It breaks the sound of solitude,
Thus shattering the pall.
The monotonous sound continues,
Time, she seems to crawl,
The silence closes 'round me
The clock ticks on the wall.

I'm tired, oh so tired,
Unlike that faithful night,
I told you all my blond jokes,
And wished to hold you tight.
In my fantasy I see you,
You hold me with all your might,
I'm tired, oh so tired,
Unlike that faithful night.

A single tear rolls down my face,
While my thoughts see fit to roam,
It's true, I'm really bored to tears,
How I wish that I were home.
I sit here blindly penning phrase,
I feel like a mindless drone,
A single tear rolls down my face,
While my thoughts see fit to roam.

Then I feel I'm lost
Within a forest of dismay,
I know that you can help me,
Show me the shinning way.
I think perhaps I'll see you,
On an upcoming Saturday,
Then I feel I'm lost
Within a forest of dismay.

You won't be there to see me,
Your friend, you'll be watching him,
Yet I can only hope and pray,
You'll look for me on a whim.
My dream, it seems so flimsy,
Furthest out upon the limb,
You won't be there to see me,
Your friend, you'll be watching him.

The wind it rages far outside,
Whirling in a gale,
And yet I wish to be out there,
Out following your trail.
Instead I sit within the walls,
And wait for online mail,
The wind it rages far outside,
Whirling in a gale.

The fire's long since died to embers,
Its heat by now is lost,
Oh how I wish to see you,
I will, but at what cost?
I can not even think straight,
My sanity I've tossed,
The fire's long since died to embers,
Its heat by now is lost.

I hear my stomach rumble,
Oh how I know such pain,
You're over there across the range,
I dare not say your name.
It makes my mind a-jumble,
Yet my thoughts of you remain,
I hear my stomach rumble,
Oh how I know such pain.

My heart it aches within my chest,
It screams to be let free,
It waltzes far away to you,
So far away from me.
A hollow tug, yet it stays whole,
My heart has eyes to see,
My heart it aches within my chest,
It screams to be let free.

What could this be, this feeling,
Is it love or something more?
I only think of stories,
Only of the ancient lore.
I see your peaceful, dreaming face,
Then my mind shuts the door,
What could this be, this feeling,
It is love and something more.

No disrespect intended to blonds, I'm one myself, but that's how we met, by the fireside telling blond jokes. Irony is a wonderful thing.
